Journey to Bali 2021 Pilgrimage with Mary Morrissey
Feb 04-15, 2021
Bali is one of the most beautiful, idyllic spots on Earth. The Balinese people make no distinction between art, life, and spirit. The expression of the divine is woven into every aspect of life. You are invited to experience the true depth of this Indonesian paradise during an exclusive 12-day spiritual retreat, guided by one of the world’s greatest transformative experts, Mary Morrissey. This encounter will take you on a true pilgrimage of Self, Soul, and Space.
Day 1, Thursday, February 4th
Welcome to Bali!
Upon arrival at your convenience, get settled into your luxurious room at the Melia Hotel at Nusa Dua Beach. This delightful Balinese resort will be your home away from home for the first few evenings of your adventure. Once you check in, this day is yours to explore the private beach, the tropical gardens, one of the several pools, or the 5-star spa. You will relax in gorgeous grounds where kings and queens have played over the years in what resembles a Balinese palace.
Day 2, Friday, February 5th
Daily breakfast at the hotel with a full breakfast buffet.
Sleep in if you like, and then after your included breakfast, join Mary Morrissey and your fellow pilgrims for an orientation and get-to-know-you gathering at 10:00 in the morning. Mary will set the stage for your exploration of the Balinese culture, including learning how to pray as the Balinese do. After the group orientation, your afternoon is free for lunch and exploring on your own. Late afternoon: We will board an air-conditioned coach to Uluwatu Temple for a sunset jaunt along the spectacular cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Then, continue on to your sumptuous Welcome Dinner at the famous Balinese market restaurant, the Bumbu Bali Pasar Malam. A Balinese dance performance with traditional music will be a special highlight of the evening. (B, D)
Day 3, Saturday, February 6th
Taneh Lot Temple
This morning, we’ll experience how Spirit loves fun, as we visit Taneh Lot Temple, the most joyous, raucous, touristy, local, crazy, temple spot in all of Bali. Wade through the souvenir sellers, food merchants, and shops until you get to the cliffs at the water’s edge. Wearing temple garb, Mary invites you to take a blessing and holy water with hundreds of Balinese and visitors who travel from far and wide for this experience.
Along with a Pedanda (Balinese priest), Mary will guide you through local traditions so you can pray with flowers, incense, and rice - something the locals appreciate, since few tourists bother to learn their customs. The entire encounter will give you a new perspective on temple worship.
On the way back to the hotel, stop for a local fusion lunch and enjoy uninterrupted ocean views at the Waka Bar and Restaurant in the WakaGangga Boutique Resort.
The rest of the afternoon and evening are free to enjoy, with dinner on your own.(B, L)
Day 4, Sunday, February 7th
Nusa Dua Village
After breakfast, our group will gather for a morning experiential learning session with our spiritual leader, Mary Morrissey. Be prepared for new discoveries of Self as Mary shares her expertise for a mindfulness journey.
The afternoon is on your own for exploring the Nusa Dua Village, where you may enjoy spas, fine shopping, delectable dining, or souvenir studios full of traditional art. Or, you may choose to relax by the ocean or pool.
Hold space this evening for a special surprise.(B)
Day 5, Monday, February 8th
Ubud and Komaneka Hotel
Today you’ll get to soak in views of the tropical Indonesian countryside during the short trek inland to the cultural capital of Bali: Ubud. On our way, our pilgrimage will pause for a moving, inspirational ceremony, led by Mary and a local Balinese healer, that will evoke a deeper understanding and insight into Balinese spirituality.
After a light lunch on the beach, watch local artists demonstrate their provocative painting styles at the exclusive Dewa Putu Toris Gallery - and maybe even get a piece to take home.
Late this afternoon, we arrive at The Komaneka Hotel, our home resort for the rest of our tour. The evening is free to wander the beauty and tranquility of the resort and enjoy dinner on your own. (B, L)
Day 6, Tuesday, February 9th
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Komaneka this morning, and then join Mary Morrissey for another poignant, divine experience to further your connection with the Spirit of the world traditions. Then, the choice is yours for which of the charming Ubud restaurants you’d love to indulge in for lunch on your own this free afternoon.
On the way to sunset drinks and dinner at a Japanese/Mexican fusion restaurant overlooking the Sayan Valley, we’ll stop to admire the artistry of two traditional Balinese crafts: unique, historic silversmithing and authentic batik fabric-making. (B, D)
Day 7, Wednesday, February 10th
Tirta Empul (Holy Springs)
Your spiritual journey is amplified today as we visit one of the most sacred sites in Bali - Tirta Empul, or Holy Springs. Immerse yourself in the rituals of the Balinese people, by first being purified and then wearing temple dress into the waters.
Passing beneath each of the thirteen holy springs is believed to cleanse your past so that you may emerge ready to create a new future. The locals are there to support and appreciate you as you make this powerful shift that very few tourists make.
The tranquility and beauty of the upscale Mosaka raw food restaurant is an ideal place to reflect and share with Mary and your fellow pilgrims about your Holy Springs experience.
Finally, for dinner this evening, enjoy an elegant meal at one of Mary’s favorite restaurants in Ubud.(B, L, D)
Day 8, Thursday, February 11th
Mount Batukaru & Besi Kalung Temple
Your pilgrimage continues with an unforgettable Bali adventure, as you go off-roading through the diverse Balinese landscape.
Your Land Rover Defender driver will navigate a thrilling ride through villages and rice paddy fields surrounding Mount Batukaru.
Discover the culture in hidden corners of the island with visits to a traditional farmhouse, a hot mineral spring, tropical gardens full of fragrant spices, and an ancient quarry where stones are cut by traditional methods to build shrines and temples.
A tranquil rainforest restaurant provides a respite from the exhilarating ride. The afternoon culminates with a private blessing at Besi Kalung Temple in the southern slopes of Mount Batukaru.
The evening is yours to do with as you choose. (B, L)
Day 9, Friday, February 12th
What would you love?
With the profound and powerful experiences of the past few days, it’s time to savor a full day off to do whatever you would love to do. Whether you decide to relax by the pool, journal in the gardens, river raft the Ayung whitewaters, shop for art in Ubud, or something even better still, this is a day to internalize that each day is a gift, another day of life, never to be lived again. So make this day a personal day to remember. Breakfast is included, and lunch and dinner are on your own. (B)
Day 10, Saturday, February 13th
Besakih Temple & Bali Budaya
Feeling refreshed from a free day, we now journey to Mount Agung to visit one of the island’s most sacred Balinese worship sites. Besakih Temple is built into the very slopes of this hallowed mountain.
Our spiritual leader, Mary, has been granted private access for our pilgrimage group to enter the main temple, a sanctified area where tourists are typically not permitted. Here Mary and our Balinese guides will make a special offering of flowers and fruit and lead you in a Balinese prayer.
Following this divine experience, enjoy lunch and breath-taking views at a mountainside resort.
Then, on the return trip, we’ll stop at Bali Budaya to witness a demonstration of another of Bali’s famous traditional crafts: wood-carving. Dinner is on your own for this free evening. (B, L)
Day 11, Sunday, February 14th
Royal Farewell Dinner
Our transformational “tirthayatra” through this sacred Indonesian island concludes this day, but not before we further expand our awareness of and connection with the One who breathes us in one more spiritual quest with Mary Morrissey.
Following this enlightening morning exercise, you will have the afternoon free to relax, dine, and shop - or wander to the end of Monkey Forest Road to see where the street gets its name.
This evening, after a short ride, enjoy a sunset stroll through the tranquil grounds which begins your authentic Balinese dining experience, served by costumed ladies offering the same service given to the Balinese Royal Family for centuries. A performance by Kichek Dancers accompanied by a gamelan ensemble provides the perfect pinnacle to your pilgrimage. (B, D)
Day 12, Monday, February 15th
Although your Bali pilgrimage with Mary has finished, you will return home fulfilled, inspired, and empowered by Mary’s teachings, and your discoveries, in this sacred land. Breakfast is included this morning before your departure. Your journey to Bali includes a private transfer back to Denpasar Airport, with guides who will escort you through check-in and emigration to begin your flight home. (B)
