Eat Pray Love Bali | Spiritual Bali Tour | Visit Bali

Feb 27-Mar 7, 2017
Mar 7-11, 2017 Beach Extension

You read Eat, Pray, Love.* You wanted to change your life, too. But who can take a year off to travel? How about one incredible week to experience some of the marvelous things author Elizabeth Gilbert* enthralled us with in her memoir? All this and transformation, too? Oh, yes!

Enjoy Bali the way Liz did, like a native, and experience all the magnificence this little island has to offer.

We will eat, we will pray, and we will love all that is Bali!

Day 1 – Arrival

ARRIVAL - Fly into Denpasar, Bali’s bustling capital. You’ll be met at the airport by one of our “Bali Family” and then taken (by private, air conditioned coach, of course) to Ubud, the spiritual heart of the island.

In addition to a full-time local guide on all tours and private transfers, Transformational Tours & Retreat’s own Halle Eavelyn, who has been leading Eat Pray Love tours for nearly a decade, will accompany you full-time on this trip. Once you arrive at Komaneka at Monkey Forest Resort, a refreshing welcome drink and cool towel will welcome you upon check-in by the warm and kind hotel staff. Dinner is a short walk, as you are already in the heart of Ubud, or else dine in one of the charming restaurants which feature fresh, local, macrobiotic cuisine.

6 Nights accommodation at Komaneka at Monkey Forest Resort. This resort is perfectly located, right in the middle of the flavors and color of Ubud.  Birds and flowers of all kinds surround you and you are only steps away from everything.

Your deluxe room features a marble bathroom and gorgeous views, as well as lots of amenities. Your comfortable, oversized room is hung with that most romantic of fabrics, mosquito netting, and you have a view of the rice paddies or the lovely gardens below. The whole hotel offers free WiFi, accessible in both your room and at the restaurant, as well as a macrobiotic, made to order BREAKFAST DAILY.

Day 2, March 2

MORNING ORIENTATION MEETING – get to know your fellow Liz Gilbert fans and tell us what about the book inspired you to come for your very own Eat Pray Love* experience in Bali!  We will offer daily themes from the Eat Pray Love* book that will enliven and deepen your experiences on the trip.

You will also learn how the Balinese pray, and be given a chance to purchase the appropriate costume if you would like to pray with us inside the temples, where the locals do. (No obligation – the temples are lovely just to see, too)

AFTERNOON SPA TREATMENT AT UBUD BODYWORKS - This is where the film crew got their massages on Bali, and it’s an incredible locale – very Balinese, and extremely enjoyable! Pamper yourself: choose from a facial, Balinese massage or reflexology treatment and relax as the lovely, kind Balinese women float you off into a world of comfort. Choose your own locally blended aromatherapy oil for your massage, then experience bliss.

DINNER IN ITALY - For our first night in Bali, start the EAT part of our trip, at Terrazzo! The authentic Italian ambience and food will whisk you away for an evening in Italy.  Save room for Tirami Su!

Day 3, March 3

EARLY MORNING MEDITATION – Each morning, we will have the PRAY part of the tour, led by Halle.  Today, learn to meditate or just participate.  Don’t feel like getting up this early… enjoy a late morning and breakfast any time you like!

MORNING READINGS WITH NYOMAN LIYER By special arrangement, Transformational Tours & Retreats has arranged readings with the son of world-famous Ketut Liyer, the Balian featured in Eat, Pray, Love. Nyoman, who has been imbued with Ketut's "power and magic," will give private readings inside his family compound, and you can also buy art drawn by Ketut or his granddaughter. Enjoy this special glimpse into Liz’s world – she sat on Ketut’s porch for many many afternoons. There will also be a special reading from Eat Pray Love about Ketut Liyer. (OPTIONAL; $20)

LUNCH AT PIZZA BAGUS in Ubud, as we continue to explore the Italian experiences from “Eat Pray Love” – have a Margarita pizza, along with a reading about Liz’s Pizzeria da Michele experience in Naples (as well as Halle's own!), and enjoy handmade gelato for dessert.

This afternoon we will visit UBUD MARKET, the renowned outdoor market – Everyone who visits Bali goes here – all at the same time. Sure we can help you bargain with the vendors, but you’ll want an extra suitcase for the silk sarongs alone!

Next, we drive to Tohpati for a visit to a silversmith where you can see the pieces being made and choose jewelry from their “I Am Unique” line – a limited line of gorgeous jewelry! Then visit a painting studio where incredible artists paint room after room of fabulous pieces.

Continue on to Batuan Village for a visit to Dewa Putu Toris painting Gallery. Explore their amazing collection as you learn about the different painting styles in Bali.

AFTERNOON VISIT TO THE UBUD MONKEY FOREST - Cuddle up with these amazing local monkeys at the Monkey Forest sanctuary. See Mamas and their newborns, up close and personal, take as many pictures as you like, even feed the monkeys bananas!  Enjoy shopping afterwards on Monkey Forest Road, a favorite with our groups!

DINNER Afterwards, relax and dine on Balinese delights at one of the best restaurants in Bali. Tonight we’ll enjoy one of the best meals on the island – the exceptional Balinese cuisine at a wonderful local establishment. Relax and drink in the rich ambience in a tropical garden, enjoying local delicacies and tastes in the heart of paradise.

Day 4, March 4

MORNING YOGA CLASS – Start the day with rejuvenating, restorative yoga in an open air class with a gifted local teacher. Think of this as either of the “India” portion of the trip, and fully participate in the yoga classes, or like the “Italy” portion of the trip, and sleep in! It’s your choice. (OPTIONAL; $15)

BESAKIH TEMPLE Today we journey by air-conditioned coach to Besakih Temple, the mother of all temples on this island of 10,000 temples. This trip gives us the chance to worship right along with the Balinese as they do. Stop to pick up a temple outfit (bring your own white shirt from home) including sash and sarong, then drive through the stunning Balinese countryside on your way to Mount Agung. Besakih is built into the very slopes of this sacred mountain, and you will experience one of the most important spots in Bali.

Inside the temple grounds, our guide will make a special offering of flowers and fruit to the temple, then we will pray with flowers, incense, and rice — you can follow along with our guide and the local Pedanda (Balinese priest). This is a beautiful way to honor the local traditions, and is very appreciated by the locals, especially since most tourists don’t bother to learn!

Afterwards, enjoy a buffet lunch at a mountainside restaurant with breathtaking views, before heading back to Ubud for your evening.
